TheGlassStudio Image 80 – Glass bevelling by hand

Hand-bevelling glass on a stone smoothing wheel

Hand bevelling
The Glass Studio’s restored circa 1920’s Henry Lange bevelling equipment enabled us to make the highest quality hand-bevelled glass. This image shows a bevel being ‘smoothed’ by Thomas Smylie on the Newcastle stone ‘smoothing’ wheel, the second and most demanding stage of a four-step process. Our custom bevels were made with 8mm thick glass to give them steep, refractive angles and were always finished with optical grade cerium oxide for maximum brilliance.
